3 new pieces in th' Files Library fer Sunday's Band meetin: another excerpt from Britten's Ceremony o' Carols, quite short, but very pretty, labeled Britten_Balulalow, Sheep May Safely Graze by JS Bach, labeled, Bach Sheep May Safely an a rousin rendition o' Wassail (All Over Th' Town). Might get a another one or two in there before th' meetin, might not ;) But go ahead an grab these.

Note: Y' probly mostly already know this, but fer them that don't, th' easy way t' get th' latest uploads is t' click on th' Date Uploaded header at th' top o' th' list; that'll arrange 'em all from first uploaded t' last. Clickin it again will reverse th' list, bringin th' most recent ones t' th' top ;)

Oi! Got a update on th' whole free-playin issue! Hadn't seen Dessuidhiel, th' leader o' Symphonius, in quite a while, but finally caught up t' her a couple o' nights agon, an she graciously provided me with this link:

http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?280142-Freestyling-%28keymap-layout-and-first-tune%29

which gives a map (a couple of 'em, actually) fer layin out th' notes on yer keyboard, an some good advice on how t' use it, once ye've done it.

Also, she set my mind at rest about somethin that was troublin me, but probly should not have been, if I'd just thought it thru: I was worried that re-mappin th' whole keyboard would mean all my reglar hotkeys that I use while questin an chattin an whatnot would get overwritten, but it ain't so. Musical note keys ONLY come into play when yer in "Play Music" mode. Stands t' reason, since th' default notes are mapped t' keys 1-0, but that don't stop ye from swingin yer sword or tossin out a heal usin them same keys.

Anyways, Celbrethion's been busy th' last couple o' nights searchin out good spots fer th' Second Breakfast Server-Wide Shire Rally comin up in January, so I ain't actually done this yet myself, but I'm thinkin I'll try t' set it up b'fore Travelin Tuesdays t'night an see what I can do with it.

FREE PLAYIN

Take a look at this...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XP9sI5Q-m8s

This is one way we could free play, but as y' can tell, y' have t' totally re-assign all th' default keys on yer keyboard t' get th' full range o' notes. I happen t' know Dessuidhiel o' Symphonius has done this (probly not th' exact same set-up, but somethin similar). What I don't know is if there's any way t' save more than one set o' keybinds an switch back an forth b'tween 'em. Seems unlikely, but perhaps not; next time I see Dess in Middle Earth I'll try t' remember t' ask her. Anyways, LOTRO has 36 notes (3 octaves o' 12 half-steps each) so there's ALMOST enough keys below th' numbers t' program 'em all, but y' wouldn't have hotkeys fer th' Map, or yer Wallet, or yer character screen, etc.

One way t' cut down th' number o' keys needed would be t' only play in one (musical) Key; C Major (Which is th' same notes as A Minor) an then y' could leave out all th' notes that are black keys on a piano, cuttin th' number down t' 21 notes. Limits yer musical flexibility a bit, but leaves a few keyboard keys left over fer game-related things.

Anyways, I'm thinkin mebbe I could roll a new character that'd pretty much just play keyboard after gettin t' level 10 or so, an then I could play chords an riffs like th' video, an others could play melody on top o' it. (As y' can see, I'm a bit nervous about re-programmin all th' keys I'm used t' usin...)

Aye, those are two good resources fer already made ABC files. Unfortunately, there ain't any master list somewhere, an if there were, it'd be so massively ginormous that ye'd never get thru 'em all. What ye'll need t' do is, if y' find a piece y' think th' band ought t' have in its repertoire, download it t' yer Magical Engine an then upload it t' th' Files Library on our website's Gallery page. That way, everyone in th' band can get it from there.

Th' other way t' get ABC files is t' build 'em yerself from MIDI files, which is how I got most o' th' things I've presented so far. I ain't above reapin what others have sown (got th' "Phantom o' th' Opry" number from th' Songbook o' Laurelin) But I like t' find stuff I think is good and /or unusual on th' interwebs an so expand th' universe o' ABC files. Bear in mind tho that this is QUITE a bit more involved than pickin up stuff that's already been converted t' ABC.

An then, I've had some folks tell me that they actually WRITE music in ABC notation which strikes me as bein overly masochistic. But then I already know th' standard notes an staffs version. If I was startin from scratch, I guess learnin one system's about as easy as another.

Thanks for the tip Daffin. I downloaded and installed the Songbook and Lyrical Plugins. The songbook is woking great. What a handy tool. For somereason I can't load or show the Lyrical Pugin though.

Is there a recomended Site or program to mass-download all the songs one would want to play or that a band could use as a resource so everyone is on the same page?

If yer really intrested in doin a lot o' music, go back about 5 posts an find th' one where I give links t' th' LOTRO Songbook an Lyrical plugins. Y' might not need that second one, but th' Songbook fer certain is very helpful, an not difficult t' figger out.

Hey all. Just want everyone to Marv is now a musician! Yay. I'm a total noobie but I am able to copy/paste songs from The Fat Lute into a music folder in my lotro folder and play it. I also learned and used these emotes:

/music
/play <songfilename>
/play <songfilename> sync
/playstart

That's as far as I got, but I had a lot of fun with it. Any suggestions on what else I need to do to join the group would be appreciated.

Well, we ain't got any concerts scheduled or nothin like that (yet) so mostly what we're doin now is gettin people involved an buildin up a repertoire so when events DO come up (Winter Festival), we'll have a core group o' folks able t' perform. So it ain't really NECESSARY fer folks t' come out t' th' practices, except that I'm buildin a number o' pieces that need 8 or 9 folks t' play all th' parts, so if we ain't got that kind o' numbers at th' practices, we won't be able t' hear th' things in-game th' way they ought t' sound. But mostly we're doin it because its fun an a good way t' enjoy each other's company Happy

As mentioned before, I'd like us t' get out an do some ad hoc performin after th' meetin, just t' let folks see how fun it is t' attract a crowd (assumin that we do... 0.0 ). But when we get a real performin gig, we'll post it up in advance, with th' songs an all that'll be performed, an have people sign up t' play, includin who's playin what on each number, so it'll go smooth in th' concert itself. At that point, those folks that ain't able t' come t' th' reg'lar practices can jump on th' wagon. Th' more, th' Meriadocker!

Oh; an if yer readin this, an plan t' show up t' Sunday practice, check th' Files Library Tab on th' Gallery page in our website an download anythin that's new, so we'll be ready t' go. This week, there's 2 new zip files, "Britten...." an "Timewarp" Happy

I can't make it to practices either due to family stuff on Sundays but if you need someone to fill in I have Bugo who was taught all of the instruments. I have songbook and lyrical as well.

BAND PRACTICE FER SUNDAY TH' 20th

This Sunday (Noon, Server Time) we'll be lookin at a couple o' new pieces: th' Time Warp ( a great dance number from Rocky Horror) an another Holiday piece, though many may not know it: This Little Babe, from Benjamin Britten's Ceremony o' Carols. Also plan t' do some experimentin with live playin, an mebbe we'll get in a tutorial on th' Lyrical Plug-in an th' LOTRO Songbook, two add-ons that (as I am assured by them that know) make playin an sortin yer music files incredibly easy. Fer them that don't have 'em, here's some links:

Fer th' Lyrical plugin:
http://www.lotrointerface.com/downloads/info455-Lyrical.html

An y'can read about an download th' LOTRO Songbook here:
http://www.lotrointerface.com/downloads/info380-0.51.html

Also, I'm hopin that once we're done we can all go out, either en masse or in a couple o' smaller sets, an play some stuff fer passers-by
It'll be good practice!

Oi! Did th' words actually show up like that, or did ye paste 'em in there later? I never seen that before, mebbe there's a Option I don't know about...

There is an option that is called 'enable chat bubbles' or some such that you must tick to get 'says' to appear above the char speaking. Emotes won't broadcast like that on your screen.

Weekends are always a struggle with me since my husband works the week and weekends are the times we do things together. It doesn't rule them all out, but having time online, especially during the day, is a rare treat for me. I once joined a raiding guild who only raided weekends. I asked for a compromise of every other weekend and I think I only had the pleasure of raiding with them like that over the course of a month and a half before I had to leave due to the issues it brought into my personal life.

If I didn't know from experience that this isn't an option for me, I would try to commit to more. What I can offer is to fill in if needed. I have a mini, and Sapph knows quite a few instruments as well. If an event is coming up and you need an extra lute, harp, or whatever, and I am known to be going to said event, please feel free to nudge me. I am familiar with songbook and lyrical and if given a link or two to the material, I can be set up in a matter of minutes.
