Extra Life 2013 - Support kids in need
As you may have seen on the game launcher, Team Turbine will be participating in the Extra Life gaming marathon. Participants pledge to game for 25 straight hours and gather donations in support of a local Children's Miracle Network Hospital. Proceeds will help support families who are unable to pay for their children's care, as well as research, training, and equipment purchases for their 170 hospitals across North America (for the record, Charity Navigator gives this organisation four stars out of four).
Sapience, Lotro's Community Manager, is captain of the Turbine team. He will be playing in support of the Boston Children's Hospital. This hospital treats 1,400 children per day and over 500,000 a year, regardless of their family's ability to pay.
All donors receive in-game & Lotro forums titles and will be entered into drawings for great items like TP codes, Helm's Deep Premium Edition Keys, and Lifetime Accounts. But the best incentive of all is knowing that you will help children in need.
So please visit his pledge page and give what you can. You may also wish to support Tales of Arda's team. And if you would like to join Team Turbine as an individual with your own commitment to game for 25 hours, please let us know.
It looks like the codes for donors may finally be coming! Sapience posted this on Wednesday:
Now that I'm a bit more caught up on work I can jump back in here and get this finalized.
Current plan (now that I have all email exported and a list mostly compiled) is to have these go out this coming Friday, January 10th. They'll be coming from a Turbine email address like they did last year because our account support team has once again agreed to help me get these out (they can send far more emails far more quickly than I ever could). Do keep in mind however, that account support, CS, GMs, etc cannot assist with ANYTHING Extra Life related. There will be an email address included with the email that will be sent directing you where to send questions.
Also, I wanted to pass along an email I received from Boston Children's. I wanted you guys to fully understand the impact you have and what that $50,000+ goes to address. Also, keep in mind a few things.
- The number of participants are the number of people like me doing the fund raising, not the number of people who donated to each fund raiser. For example, there were over 1920 donations to my efforts alone.
- I wanted you to get a very real look at just how important this effort we participate in is. $212,061 raised, and $50,647 of that came from you guys. That's almost a quarter of their total for Extra Life. That's you guys. That's AMAZING!
- That doesn't include the roughly $6,000 raised by other members of Team Turbine for Boston Children's Hospital. That's not just employees like a member of our CS team who raised over $1200, but people like Whiteberry from Tales of Arda who raised more than $800. Together that's MORE than a quarter of their total.
- Nor does any of that include the $4,000 raised for other Children's Miracle Network Hospitals by Team Turbine. More than $60,000 all totaled.
Do drop in. The doors are always open!

Breakfast: the best meals of the day.
It will now be Monday. The man's got a lot on his plate right now, so the delay definitely makes sense.
But I still marvel at the $60,000 dollars raised by Turbine. And I'm proud that some of those contributions came from our members.
