Second Breakfast hosts the Tolkien Professor
Some of you may have heard last night that the Tolkien Professor's "Explore the Lord of the Rings - On Location" course will be headed to Crickhollow next Tuesday, January 10th at 9:30pm EST (server time). You may not know that our kinship will be playing host. Not only will we be introducing Dr. Olsen, we will have a special Discord channel Q&A with him at the close of the session. Just SB members and friends invited. Discord will also be used for asking questions during the class session, as Dr. Olsen will not be reading any in-game text.
The session will consist of an hour and a half discussion of a LotR book chapter and its theme. Afterwards, the class participants will travel to the places connected with the book discussion.
The class will be broadcast on Twitch, but I hope you can make it in game as well. Standing Stone developers have designed a lore hall specifically for this course located at 30.1S, 52.1W in Bree-town, but I don't know if it will be in place in time for this lecture (the location at the courtyard near the Cat Lady's house will remain the same either way). Maven has posted a map and further directions on the class website.
I'll post more information for us on here soon. Here's a video of last night's class in case you missed it:

This looks awesome! I am soooooo there. :)
I too have set up a Discord.
By the way, does anyone use this for chat in-game?
I am still having trouble getting any microphone to work on this laptop and sometimes it would be very convenient to use a chat system. Maybe Discord would work as an alternative.
Make sure to sign up for Discord ahead of time. It's very easy to get in and set up (hmmm, that has given me certain ideas...). You can go directly to the general section of the Signum University Discord chat channel by following this link.
You need only verify your email address. Once in, you will find several text channels and several voice channels on the left side of the screen. Dr. Olsen will only answer questions posed in the lore hall questions channel. There is some good information under welcome and announcements. The professor will not be participating in the general channel, but it's a great place to discuss everything with fellow participants. I do not yet have the full details, but I believe we will join the after event Q&A on the Corey-Kin Hangouts voice channel.
I would love to be there but at 3:30 am I am asleep ;). But of course I can watch the broadcast yeah!!!

I just received a request with a lovely idea: would any musicians or a band like to perform prior to the lecture? I know it is very late notice, but there will be a good crowd.
Would anyone be able to record the sessions or do you think they will be on the website later?

All sessions will be posted on YouTube. Our private chat session will not be recorded as far as I know.
Still looking for pre-show musicians. Anyone interested?
I'll be happy t' play some solos ahead o' th' event, fer what, mebbe half a hour? An if there's other Band members present, we can do some small ensemble numbers as well ;)
Brilliant, thank you! Sorry again about the late notice, but I figured it wouldn't be too hard for us to scare up some musicians.
At some point I'll be sending our private post lecture audio chat link out in kinchat. I don't think there's any harm in inviting friends and allies if they would like to join in.
