So what do th' rest o' ye think?
Should we just stop havin Band Meetins? (I hate this idea, but I'm throwin it out there)
Or should we play in public? If we did, who would promise t' be there?
I can work up a set list o' 4-, 5- an 6-part songs each week, I spose.
Or should we keep on as we have been doin?
Mebbe I ought t' make this a poll, but I'd rather hear actual comments, rather than anonymous points on a chart...
I look forward to band time each week, especially as it's one of the few times I get to interact with kin members. It's fun and I like testing out new pieces.
It would be great if we did play out in public more often, though. That was one reason I proposed the Bread and Jam thing. With plenty of duets and trios available on the music forum, even if only a handful of us show up we could still have some play time together. Thought it would also be a nice way to get new kin members interested without overwhelming them.
If changing the time we meet for band practice would help, I'm definitely open to that!
A couple of set lists would be good to start with and would give folks a chance to feel confident, but keeping it fresh is equally important. Sorry, Bugo, but we need new pieces in the rotation on a regular basis.
Can we compromise? In other words, meet at the kinhouse first for band housekeeping or trying out 1-2 new pieces and then going off to play a public set? Daffin, I'm not sure if you already meant this when you mentioned sets, but could you have a 4-person set, a 5-person, and a 6-person ready? That way if only 4 people show up one week we'd still be good to go--just do the 4-man set.
The Boar Fountain is a nice central location but the water noise is a major distraction. Maybe we can be close by but not next to it. Personally, I like the wall by the town hall where the Strollers played as it has defined band and audience areas. The spot where we played the pre-Weatherstock concert is also excellent as there's plenty of traffic from the mailbox, bank, and stable.
The band has come far--let's not get discouraged. Summer has folks spending more time outside or vacationing, the Farmer's Faire and Summer Festival will keep people busy, and rumor has it that Rohan beta testing is also going on now. Band attendance is bound to take a hit. But let's get out there and show off what we can do! Maybe we can even make an appearance at the Farmer's Faire and the Festival!

I do apologise for not making it out yesterday. I fear that I may miss the next few practices as well. I'm in the midst of another treatment cycle, and the draw of the Olympics also proves to be quite powerful for me. I may not be able to pull myself away, but if I can hold up I will try my best.
I was in a band on Landroval for a while, and after one initial practice we did concerts every week. This was initially a problem at times, but eventually the songs were tested at another time. It lent more of a sense of urgency to attending, as it was a concert rather than a simple practice. But it did seem a bit excessive.
But I do think keeping the weekly time but alternating between practice and concerts could work. I agree with Taumel that taking away the weekly meetings would serve only to compound the problem.
And as Daffin knows, I've long advocated a single zipped playlist of all of our band songs on this website, updated weekly or bi-weekly. This allows for new members to catch up in an instant, and for existing members to always have the most up-to-date songlist. The individual song files would remain on the Breakfast Music site, perhaps along with the duets and trios that are not in the official band list. Test songs could also be kept separate if we so chose, to make a tighter official playlist.

Thank you for the memories, Second Breakfasters! Much love to you all. ~ Crickhollow Music
I agree with Rosa... We shouldn't skip the weekly meetings. I think this would get our group separated again and it sure was a lot of work to get so many people together finally.
As said before we can just meet at the regular day and time and practice and after we can decide if we want to play in Bree or wherever or set a date for sundays to do a lil concert.
I can't say how the new song website is since I didn't sign up to use it yet (will once my pc works again) but I also agree with separating band practice songs and random songs people would like to add. Also with a section for songs people would like to test and when they were successfully tested they can get moved to the band songs section. Is the website arranged like that? So like that all know what songs they have to get and the rest is up to them.
Also the idea of making a zip file with those songs all need to have and uploading it here on the site is a good idea as long as it gets updated every couple of weeks. We could upload the same file again and again but updated or make multiple ones and name them e.g. week1-2, week3-4 and so on.
Dallo, you've never been a person who threw in the towel very fast so why start now
As for not being there I'm really sorry and I'm really sad about it but I just can't help it right now. I will soon... somehow... I don't want to miss all of the farmer's fair
Well I think the people in and around the band are reliable and most of the times there've been a lot of them attending the practice so I'm sure if they can't come there is a reason why. This does not mean the practice is falling apart or anything.

Don't want t' be misunderstood, here, I wasn't pointin fingers at folks fer missin th' meetin; just pointin OUT that there's no way t' know in advance how many folks'll show up on any given Saturday, so tryin t' make a definitive Concert list is nearly impossible.
Addressin various points here in no perticular order:
I'm a bit uneasy with th' "every other week" practice/concert rotation, as I don't want folks skipppin th' practice sessions an then turnin up fer th' Concerts, an sayin "So, which songs should I have downloaded?"
So, I'd prefer th' "Meet at th' Kinhouse, do one or two new things, then go out an perform" approach. We could build us a followin mebbe, with some discrete advertisin, if there was a concert every week at 12:30 at th' big rock opposite th' Stables, or somewheres. But what this means is, people would have t' show up on time... I'm always at th' Kinhouse by 11:50 (or at th' very least, runnin back to it from th' other Minhouse with extry instruments), but it seems like we never get started in on playin anythin til 12:20 or so...
Taumel, if yer willin t' build a all-encompassin zip file (specially if y' got everythin organized t' do somethin like that) I'd be grateful. Just remember t' make sure whatever files y' put in are th' latest revisions on' th' songs. Most things only GOT 1 version, but there's a handful (Goblin Mash, HazyShade, Fields o' Gold, a few others I can't think o' right now) that HAVE been revised, an I'd not want th' "Master Zip" t' have outdated stuff in it.
In any case, talk t' me about it b'fore y' do anythin...
'Course, right now it seems we can't upload anythin onto th' SB site til th' payment stuff gets sorted out; least that's what I been led t' b'lieve, ain't actually tried it...
What I hoped fer, when we started th' BreakfastMusic site, was that folks'd just go there every Saturday at 11:30, download anythin with a "New" Icon, an then come t' Band. Is that too much t' expect? I dunno, mebbe it is, but it seems t' ME t' be not that hard t' get done.
Only thing t' be aware of is that if there's a "New" Icon on th' Main Page, an y' go there, an there's, say, 3 new or updated posts, if y' don't get everythin while yer there, th' next time y' visit, there won't be a "New" icon on th' Main Page, b'cause y' already opened that folder...
This reply here ain't intended t' be th' Final Word, th' discussion's still open. Want t' thank them as has replied, an also thank Bugo fer raisin th' issue t' begin with.

I like the idea of the master file. It will certainly make things easier for some people especially a new member who doesn't have anything at all yet and needs to catch up.

I don't think we run risk of not having something fresh for the audience to listen to since according to the topic count there's 63 songs under "band files". We might have heard them but the people watching us might not have yet. That's why I think each song at some point should have had some concert time before adding anything new. But that's my opinion.
A couple of set lists would be good to start with and would give folks a chance to feel confident, but keeping it fresh is equally important. Sorry, Bugo, but we need new pieces in the rotation on a regular basis.

Well, Taumel's put up th' whole mess (figgeratively speakin; he's got it all organized by folders, just like on th' Music site^^) in th' Files Library; so if anyone's not finished gettin all th' songs, y' can now dump yer entire folder (Minus any solo pieces y' have that y' want t' save, o' course) an just download "breakfast_music,_29.7.12.zip" an ye'll have everythin that's on th' BreakfastMusic site as o' yesterday.
HOWEVER, there were a few songs that needed a bit o' revision (mostly 'cause o' ABC title block issues, like not havin th' instument part show up in Songbook). These have been fixed an re-posted as new threads in th' Music site, with th' followin message: THIS IS A REVISED FILE! PLEASE DELETE YOUR CURRENT VERSION AND REPLACE IT WITH THIS ATTACHMENT
(Hmmm... it just now occurs t' me that perhaps I ought t' have put "Revised" in th' thread title, instead o' just that blurb on th' page after it's been opened; I'll try t' do that in future.)
Now. I' ain't quite certain what t' do with all o' what is now goin t' be duplicates on both sites (all th' songs that've been gathered into th' master zip file). What I think is th' best thing is t' delete all th' songs in th' SB Files Library, so it'd just be th' Master file there, an hopefully Taumel will be willin t' update that every month or somethin. But I'd like t' leave all th' songs on th' Breakfast Music site fer folks that want t' come in an browse an mebbe just pick up a arrangement or two. So that if someone hears us play somethin an wants t' know where they can find it, we can send 'em t' th' site. If that makes sense t' everyone, then that's what I'll do, but if anyone's got a objection, feel free t' pipe up ;)
An I'll get up a playlist fer this Saturday, we can all go over t' th' Farmer's Faire an be annoyin ;) Note that I won't be able t' assign parts or nothin, we'll have t' do that on th' fly, but we're gettin pretty good at that, so it shouldn't be a problem.
