There's a thread on th'  Breakfast Club's site concernin standardized part numbers, an how t' get Maestro t' use 'em automatically, but y' have t' be a member o' th' site t' view it. which ain't no big deal, y' just need t' join with a (throwaway, if y' want to) email address. Th' page is here:

http://breakfastmusic.proboards.com/thread/1080/get-maestro-number-yer-parts

If she don't want t' go t' all that trouble, th' short answer is like this:

Drums: 1 thru 10
Lutes: 11 thru 20
Harps: 21 thru 30
Theorbos: 31 thru 40
Bagpipes: 41 thru 50
Flutes 51 Thru 60
Horns: 61 thru 70
Clarinets: 71 thru 80
Pibgorns: 81 thru 90
Cowbells: 91 thru 100
Fiddles: 101 thru 110
Bassoons: 111 thru 120

This is how th'  Breakfast Club does it, an it's more or less consistent with many other Bands, though there are some discrepancies. I feel that ALL Lutes can use th' 11-20 index numbers, an th' part NAME can say if it's th' Basic Lute or th' Lute o' Ages; same with Harps, Cowbells an Fiddles (an Bassoons too whenever they show up). Some other organizations do it a  bit diffrent, but th'  basic structure's th' same.
