Fer that t' work, we'd need t' have all th' tunes finalized 'bout a week ahead o' th' concert. I ain't sure how t' put 'em in order tho—charge one person, an everyone agrees not t' quibble; have someone do it an someone else approve; select 2 or 3 to work it out? Get several people to build a set list an vote?
But th' critical thing would be t' actually have th' abc files, not just someone sayin, "I'm goin t' have Moon River, it's about 3 1/2 minutes long," an then we find out it's 'as done by Nine Inch Nails' or somethin...

If we don't do it this way, an just play each person's submissions in order, then what order? Alphabetical by character first name? Alphabetical by Band name? Draw from a hat?

Since I did mine at 12 parts, I'll dance for those and let 12 others play.  Happy

I like the idea of putting the songs together in a directed order, to make the entire concert flow better.  With so many, we're not going to know what kind of songs will be made.  It will end up very eclectic, but it doesn't have to be chaotic.

Its 13 members and thats not a bad idea to do 9 mins each, however i know one is just going to do one song though as they never done up to 13 parts but willing to try it, most are committed to one song at the moment, but can always ask if they want to do more, I know Cheggra thinks one song each is easier for all.

With 12 (or is it 13 now?) people all contributin, each one should get about 9 minutes, which'd make fer a (roughly) 2-hour concert. I figger y' can make one 9-minute tune, or two 4 1/2-minute tunes, or three 2-minute tunes an a 3-minute tune... however ye'd like t' spend yer 9 minutes. An if'n it were up t' me, I'd then get someone t' build a decent set out o' ALL th' tunes, not just play every person's 9 minutes in turn; think that'd make fer a better concert experience fer them as is listenin ;)

I'm always a fan of classical stuff or movie themes, so did full 5 min 13 part version of The Raiders March (aka Indiana Jones theme)

I have two songs now officially done for 12 part.  Both are 3.5 min long.  Autobahn by Kraftwerk, and S.O.S. by Abba, released in late '74 and early '75 respectively, a few months apart.

For some odd reason it's hard to find a midi for Nirvana for 12 parts...

Sure you can! I don't want to reject anyone who wants to play, I know you lead your own band, but I will say i was mainly going with Band Leaders on Crickhollow who call it their home or play regularly with their band there, not just once a year like at shirefest. Happy

that will be 13 of us playing (Aryreilyn has recently joined this group) and I think I will close with that, and move onto other parts, what type of music everyone wants to play or leave it diverse and play what ever.

No time limit and I decided that we play what ever you want which should be interesting, however If everyone wants to do certain type of songs we can do that.

And to note Brandstan has withdrawn, this never once crossed my mind at all when thinking of doing this, but he feels like its an elitist thing that he doesn't want others to think hes better and more important, that it doesn't feel right to him that other band leaders are left out, but to make it easier i limited the number. But Its not about what he said at all.

Will there be a time limit per song, or a time limit per composer?  If someone does one 15 minute Zep tune, can I do a half dozen 2 minute songs?

an update, I was thinking about going with 12 Band leaders and each leader has to make a 12 part tune for us to play, and so far there are 11 of us interested in this and are on board, there was absolutely zero convincing, it was strait up this great idea yes, and wanted more info. still waiting reply from #12 then i will say who all is joining.

I am targeting early November for this event.

Maybe not up 24 but will see how many would be interested, and largest midi file I have is 28 parts of Jupiter by Holst's Planets.

And yes many play by themselves to create what they want, but also cause its hard to find others to play with or they have limited time to commit playing with others, a number of reasons for just playing alone with alts, so I'm sure they be happy to play with a group for special event.
