Band Leaders Idea
In the Past this kind of thing has happened on Laurelin server I remember seeing the event where like 24 different band leaders played music together, was great fun, recently heard they going to do same on Landroval with Band Leaders, My thought is i would like to do this on Crickhollow server sometime, there are many bands that play on this sever and would be nice if Band leaders played together for special event, each leader would have to create a song for us to play or use one they already have with many parts. any feedback be about doing something like this in the future be great :)
Some players have no problem at all playing with others in a band. In fact, it may be preferable to them, not having to deal with song-writing or leading anything on their own. It's a much more relaxing way to play, as a group.
I've always enjoyed playing with others nearly as much as playing on my own. I've been honored by being asked to play with MGPB in the upcoming, and the last several Weatherstocks, and enjoyed helping Branstan (along with PPPB) play at OAKS.
So, there are quite a few band leaders who might be interested in doing this, at least the playing part.
Most of the songs I play are by 3-5 member bands, I've maybe encountered a few midis that have more than 10 parts, don't know if I could even find a song that could be stretched into 24 parts, maybe a Symphony & Metallica song?
The band leaders you'd have to convince are the ones who specifically chose to make an alt band because they wanted to be the one to make all the choices, and didn't want to play with anyone else.
I definitely think that the majority of band leaders would be up for this, though. We're at a good spot now on Crick where everyone seems to be getting along very well, and we are all very social animals.
So, here's to a Crickhollow Supergroup! I'm in!
Maybe not up 24 but will see how many would be interested, and largest midi file I have is 28 parts of Jupiter by Holst's Planets.
And yes many play by themselves to create what they want, but also cause its hard to find others to play with or they have limited time to commit playing with others, a number of reasons for just playing alone with alts, so I'm sure they be happy to play with a group for special event.
This seems like a wonderful idea! I would love to be a part of this!
an update, I was thinking about going with 12 Band leaders and each leader has to make a 12 part tune for us to play, and so far there are 11 of us interested in this and are on board, there was absolutely zero convincing, it was strait up this great idea yes, and wanted more info. still waiting reply from #12 then i will say who all is joining.
I am targeting early November for this event.
Yay!!
*goes off to search for a 12 part song*
Ok so heres all 12 names confirmed/interested in doing this, and November 5th or 12th is what I am aiming for, and will pick a location plenty of time for that though, for now just wanted see whos on board with this :)
Pontin, Luventhariel, Boujee, Panne, Rosemarinie, Fersinda, Branstan, Rheniogil, Kenghis, Lasswen, Duidhrastir and Dallofin
Will there be a time limit per song, or a time limit per composer? If someone does one 15 minute Zep tune, can I do a half dozen 2 minute songs?
No time limit and I decided that we play what ever you want which should be interesting, however If everyone wants to do certain type of songs we can do that.
And to note Brandstan has withdrawn, this never once crossed my mind at all when thinking of doing this, but he feels like its an elitist thing that he doesn't want others to think hes better and more important, that it doesn't feel right to him that other band leaders are left out, but to make it easier i limited the number. But Its not about what he said at all.
Can I join this, too?
Sure you can! I don't want to reject anyone who wants to play, I know you lead your own band, but I will say i was mainly going with Band Leaders on Crickhollow who call it their home or play regularly with their band there, not just once a year like at shirefest. :)
that will be 13 of us playing (Aryreilyn has recently joined this group) and I think I will close with that, and move onto other parts, what type of music everyone wants to play or leave it diverse and play what ever.
I have two songs now officially done for 12 part. Both are 3.5 min long. Autobahn by Kraftwerk, and S.O.S. by Abba, released in late '74 and early '75 respectively, a few months apart.
For some odd reason it's hard to find a midi for Nirvana for 12 parts...
I'm always a fan of classical stuff or movie themes, so did full 5 min 13 part version of The Raiders March (aka Indiana Jones theme)
With 12 (or is it 13 now?) people all contributin, each one should get about 9 minutes, which'd make fer a (roughly) 2-hour concert. I figger y' can make one 9-minute tune, or two 4 1/2-minute tunes, or three 2-minute tunes an a 3-minute tune... however ye'd like t' spend yer 9 minutes. An if'n it were up t' me, I'd then get someone t' build a decent set out o' ALL th' tunes, not just play every person's 9 minutes in turn; think that'd make fer a better concert experience fer them as is listenin ;)
Its 13 members and thats not a bad idea to do 9 mins each, however i know one is just going to do one song though as they never done up to 13 parts but willing to try it, most are committed to one song at the moment, but can always ask if they want to do more, I know Cheggra thinks one song each is easier for all.
